This does seem to have the desired effect. I will try it out and see if works on a practical level, but I'm optimistic. I did check the settings but I must have missed the the one you illustrated.

You are correct, however if you need the top-level to have a permanent function (like for instance a folder for miscellaneous tasks) - as soon as the last task is completed, the top-level task disappears when your Filter is on "B) Incomplete" tasks.
