Seeing how UDT / AHK seems to be a popular thing, my approach to PC automation is to use gamer products such as programmable keyboards.
My favourite device is the Logitech G13 gameboard which allows you to create on-device quick macros (no coding required) in a few seconds - and also to generate and store complex scripts within the device software (e.g. combining key presses and mouse clicks).
You can program dozens of keys (and set different profiles) to drive multiple environments/activities. It is targetted at gamers but it works on almost any PC software. And being Logitech, it's well made...

I bought a gaming mouse from the list in the first page (I'm not a gamer, so many features like 16000 DPI, RGB led etc. are useless for me) and assigned a lot of udt and AutoHotKey scripts to the 12 keys on the left side, and I would definitely say that my experience with ToDoList have become much easier.
There are also some useful keyboards (e-ink keyboard) that allows the user to use custom icons for the keys (it's useful when you have a bunch of macros and scripts )
