Apologies Dan, I am struggling with this one so hope I am not causing confusion. I have poor eyesight and it is difficult for me to see the cutouts.

Also I don't clearly understand the behavior.

I changed the colors of the cutouts as shown in the first screenshot of 'Preferences' below.

In the second screenshot the current date was September 23, 2023 and the 'This is a Task' task has a 'Due' date of September 23, 2023. So the task was 'Due Today'

Doesn't that mean the cutout on this tasks 'Priority' value should be "orange" and not "blue" like the ''Due' task color''?

The .tdl and .ini files are attached.

On the surface of it, Yes.

Let me take a deeper dive and get back to you.

There must be some subtle difference between you performing the steps and me just reloading the modified file and preferences because I can't reproduce it even now...

Could you possibly record a bug report (Help > Record Bug Report), starting with an entirely clean download of 8.2.4 when you have time?

This is so weird. Can't imagine why we are getting different results.

Here is what I did.

Opened introduction.tdl in completely fresh 8.2.4 install.

Went to 'Preferences' and changed ''Due' task color' to blue. (left the 'Due Today' task color at the default orange). I only did this because it is easier for me to distinguish the blue cutout from the orange cutout than if the 'Due' color was left at its default red color. But I don't think changing the color has anything to do with the issue.

Closed 'Preferences' and changed the 'Due Date' of 'This is a Task' to the current date here which at the time was September 25, 2023.

The cutout is blue, not orange like it should be.

You will see in the last few screenshots that I tried changing the 'Start Date' to see if that was the problem. But the cutout was still blue.

Strangely I still can't reproduce the behaviour!

Also, I'm wondering if you changed the attribute visibility, because by default the Start/Due Time and Completion Date/Time are not normally visible?

If you didn't change them as part of the experiment, I'm then wondering if there are leftover settings in the Registry which are having an effect.

Open the 'Help > About' dialog and it will tell you where your settings are being stored.

I did a new install and made no (known) changes after installed except the ones I noted. Did not (knowingly anyway) change the attribute visibility.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ One of the unexplained mysteries of the Universe!

(Maybe those little green men they saw were NOT a hoax after all!)

EDIT:
Maybe this is the reason for that? I did a "clean" install but NOT a "default" install. I chose some of the non-default install options including the one that says "No, let me see all options". Screenshot of the setup options I used is below.

Thx. That was the other possibility I didn't think of at the time!
