Haha, I think you can manage this yourself, considering the amount I already do :)

Dan,

These details are gold, thanks a lot. With great power comes great responsibility (!) so it might take a while for me to get up to speed, but this feature seems to me as close to providing a calculation engine as I could wish for (and more potential uses I haven't thought of yet).

I see there are others who are intensively using UDTs and coding generally (I tried UDTs too but just don't have the skills beyond that). But I am competent at least with Excel.

A second question then, kind of in reverse: I switched on the TDL:// setting so if I wanted Excel hyperlinks pointing to individual TDL items, is that possible? What is the syntax to get down to item level? (Actually just being able to open a list direct from Excel etc would be a good step).

How does TDL:// work with the command line switches? There is no mention of TDL:// in that help page I don't think.

Thanks again,

Jon

Absolutely.

1. Ensure that the 'tdl://' protocol is installed by checking the text beneath the option in the preferences
2. Right-click in ToDoList on the task of interest, then 'Edit > Copy As > Task Link (full)'
3. Right-click in Excel on the appropriate cell, then select 'HyperlInk', then paste into the 'Address' field

Dan, This is great, thanks. I will post an update once I get my system going, hopefully it will help anyone interested.

EDIT - I'm going to start a new thread entitled 'TDL import /export CSV' under Tips & Tricks.

ps. Although importing a tasklist can be triggered by a commandline option (-m) this option doesn't yet support 'merge by id/name', meaning that your process cannot yet be fully automated.

However, if we can first establish a manual process that achieves the correct technical requirements (export attributes, calculate new attributes, import new attributes) we can then explore ways to increase the level of automation.

I'm sorry that my very limited skills are not enough to help you in implementing this extremely useful feature. I can only support you with a small donation and invite other interested people to do the same.

I have no programming knowledge and it surely doesn't make sense, but would it be possible to embed a spreadsheet software inside todolist?

there are opensource apps like http://sss.sourceforge.net/

How would you want to use such a feature?
