- download and run
- accept all suggestions without changing anything
- just open a brand new session from new download. nothing else.
- in the example list right click on the last task "getting help"
- select new subtask under task.
- check out start date (today) although the parent task was starting a month later
- open Gannt view and check result. the start date of the parent task has moved to today (at least visually) on the chart.
- then undo the action while in Gannt chart view. the start date of the parent task will return to the programmed state.
- then repeat the action from Gannt view do not redo.
- right click on getting help and select new subtask under task.
- In Gannt view the new subtask's start date becomes the programmed start date of the parent task, which the most correct behavior because it creates a new subtask within the bounds of the parent thus not changing parent attributes, and letting only the user to do adjust as he wants after first creation, giving full control.

[Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
Re: [Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
You need to clearly state what you think the problem is. I'm not a mind reader.
Please also provide some screenshots.
I've moved this to the 'Questions' forum until all the required information is supplied.

You need to submit reports for all the views that you think are problematic. That's not my job.

Re: [Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
Ok sorry I did not mention stay on task view or list view they both have the same problem.
So shall i describe the same steps but instead of writing tasks view to write list view ? or calendar view?
You have a global byDesign error
The command creates the new SUBtask TODAY in most views.
If you select a future task and create subtask you reprogram the programmed start date of the parent. when you switch to views like gannt you realize this. Because the visual feedback (the bars) of the Gannt shows the reprogrammed date of the parent and not the initial. The initial as you have said you kept it for your reasons, (this can be seen at the parameters pane). No problem with that. But at least the programmed should be correct it should not start today.
The description im giving about task view is clear.
The same stands at least for list view

Re: [Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
Your Gannt chart works fine
Please read the titles of the tasks
Also calendar and weekly planner seem ok.
weekly planner needs to update the bar when creating a task outside bounds of parent, like in gannt.
Task view has problem
List view has problem
Evidence board has problem
Kan Ban has problem
Mindmap has a problem
Worload has a problem
all these views when create a new subtask at bottom of task
This is why I say the problem is by conception
You have worked so hard you really got to fix this problem.
"New subtask at bottom of task" is a command that is used very often when plan future events.

Re: [Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
I'm sure that I already stated that if you want subtasks to be created with their parent dates then you need to make use of the inheritance options in the preferences.
Otherwise, only the date-related views support this by default.

Re: [Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
no you haven't mentioned this.
Let me test though if it solves the problem.

Re: [Gantt Chart] Subtask date handling
In these cases it should create the task today.
You also have another option feature that needs to be coordinated.
Is the option that keeps undefined tasks that have passed in today.
I'll try to see this option how it affects future tasks.
The tasks at the bottom and their subtasks were created in Gannt view.
Apart from these from your previous message you can still see that even without the option you are suggesting, gannt view has different behavior than the rest. it is like the option is checked by default which i prefer to be truthful.
Let me know if you need more help to fix this or if there are settings that i'm missing
