[Calendar] Is 'Quick Find' supposed to work in the 'Calendar' view?

I have not used Quick Find in the Calendar recently, but I used it for the first time in a while and it doesn't work.
I am almost certain that I have used it before and it worked.
Mostly clean install:

I think not (hasn't worked since at least 8.0).
I think I implemented it for all the views that have easy ordering methodologies, and stopped when I got to the Calendar and Week Planner.
I'm happy to work on this for 9.0 if we can agree how tasks should be 'walked'.
First guess would be, given an initial selected task:
1. Cycle through any other tasks below it on the same day
2. When the bottom of the list is reached, move on to the next day

I am not completely clear about how 'same day' tasks are sorted including when the calendar preferences for showing overdue tasks and tasks in progress are enabled. I once tried to figure that out, but forgot what I found. In general though, at least, I can see they are sorted "oldest" on top to "newest" on bottom. I think I have mentioned before and we briefly discussed that that sort order may not be ideal ... for example maybe having the newest tasks on the top of the sort may be better (I see advantages to that).
But putting that discussion on the side for another day, the search order you have in mind sounds right to me too. It will search for the closest match blow the selected task on the same day and then nearest in future time to the currently selected task. The one minor glitch I can think of in that process is if a task above the selected task on the same day has the same time as the selected task. You may want that in the search pool too.
Dan, can you remind me what keyboard shortcut changes the focus to the currently selected task?

Not exactly sure what you mean, but there's 'Alt+F3' for 'Move > Scroll to Selected Task'.
I am not completely clear about how 'same day' tasks are sorted
1. By Start Time
2. Then by End Time
3. Then by Title/ID depending on the Sort menu
4. Finally by ID to keep the 'Unsorted' order stable
The one minor glitch I can think of in that process is if a task above the selected task on the same day has the same time as the selected task. You may want that in the search pool too.
Unfortunately 'Quick Find' is only a forwards or backwards operation, there's no user-defined direction(s).

Yes, that is exactly what I needed thanks! Could not remember it.
As to the topic... your idea of how it should work seems right to me. Can't think of any problems with it.
