Comments set to Markdown by default contain "d" text

Post by skelzy » Wed Oct 02, 2024 4:49 am

Program and OS details: ToDoList 8.3.9.0 (Stable Release), Windows 10 x64 fully updated

When the program is configured to use Markdown mode by default for comments, if you create a new task and type a title in it, when you are done, ToDoList automatically adds a default comment with the letter "d" in it. Also, if you copy a task that has no comment, when you paste it to duplicate it, the duplicated tasks have "d" comment added automatically.

I've disabled Markdown comments by default for now, will try it again when there's a new release.

Thanks for the amazing software, it is fantastic, a real time saver!

Update:

After posting this I decided to manually check for updates just in case. I thought the program could auto-check for updates but I guess it is manual. I found a new version and upgraded to the latest official stable release.

ToDoList 8.3.11.0 (Stable Release)

I can confirm that the bug I reported above in the 8.3.9.9 release is still present in the current 8.3.11.0 release, and can reproduce it 100% by creating a new task, typing a title and pressing enter. The letter "d" shows up in the Markdown. This only occurs if the program was configured to use Markdown for comments by default. If it is set to "Simple Text" and I manually choose Markdown, this problem does not occur. I use Markdown a lot in various programs so it is a desired format, which is why I wanted to set it to the default.

I can just use Simple Text by default and change to Markdown manually for now. Hopefully the next release fixes this minor issue.

Thanks again!

It should do if it's been configured in the Preferences.

Hi @skelzy

Unfortunately, as is sometimes the case, I'm unable to reproduce the issue based on what you have provided.

Could you attach a copy of your ToDoList.ini please?

When I read this it sounded vaguely familiar.

Many versions ago I remember something that was causing a single character to appear in my empty Comments. I don't remember what the character was, but it was odd. I also think I remember that it was possibly accompanied by deleting the contents of the Comment but I am fuzzy on that.

The only thing I am confident about is that it happened in comments that were not 'Markdown' type. I don't know if it would have happened in Markdown comments or if it is related to the same issue, but the single character thing seems to be evidence that maybe it was.

I have not seen it for a very long time and was never able to reproduce it.

I found the source of the problem. In the Comments configuration, there was a "d" in the text box, but I never put it there. Is there perhaps an accidental d there by default? I found some other people experiencing this when I searched google too. Deleting the d removed the problem for me. Let me know if you still want me to attach the INI file even though the issue seems resolved now.

Thanks for figuring it out - that's all I was going to do with your ini file so there's no need to attach it now.

As for how the 'd' got there, it's possible that it was an artifact from a previous issue, since the problem does not seem to reoccur with current versions.

Ok, thanks. Yeah, if it was an old issue I guess it could have been present in my config for a while and never encountered it as I had never used Markdown until very recently then decided to see if I could set it as the default then shortly after discovered the problem. It's all good now though. :)

Thanks again!
