Please post descriptions of the contexts in which you use ToDoList and how specific aspects of the software help you to achieve your goals, so that others might benefit from your experiences.

I have only just downloaded and have had a go at using this program.
My goal is to set it up to use out on the floor, using a large touch screen monitor as a job tracking and communication access point.

I'd like to be able to scale up some of the interface features to make it more user friendly ( the plus signs for sub tasks, larger client icons next to the task names)

I'd also like to 'lock down' the UI so only those fields I have attributes set as being user modifiable are the only ones that can be altered on the shop floor.

Not sure if any or part of that is doable yet.

I use it as my general project task tracking for both home and work. I work in manufacturing and have switched from Outlook to Lotus and then back to outlook again. When I switched to Lotus ~10 years ago, I found the #1 recommended add-on was KILLNOTES.EXE...suffice to say, it wasn't confidence inspiring. I decided I wanted something that was free, didn't need installed (portableapp) with multiple features. ToDoList fit the bill. (I tried some others, including web based versions, but my trust factor is low...I want the data and I don't always want it on the cloud).
If I had any complaints, it would probably be the limitations to work with mobile devices given that dynamic shift in the past 10 yrs. I've been using some sync'ing with my NAS and phone; along with ajiget's android version to have a read only version on mobile device. It works but I'm not comfortable editing on the mobile and having a potential conflict screw up on my main PC copy.
The multitude of options for repetitive tasks have made 'scheduling' re-occurances easy.

I use it as a task list, although I miss a lot of things but I will write about them in the suggestions section. It's good to expand the program with new functions - for example events but I'll write about it.

I use ToDoList above all to plan study and work activities. I mainly use the "Task tree" and "Gantt Diagram". The ability to organize tasks and sub-tasks is important to me. The ability to import and export tasks in Excel and Text format is very useful. The ability to link files and urls and notes to tasks is also very useful.

As a programmer, I often use ToDoList when I need to create estimates.

Often we are still discussing which features should be included in the delivery and because I always redo all the estimates when the requirements change I need something quick and easy to use.
When the customer approves the tasks are then moved to Azure DevOps (or whatever ticket system is being used) and then I don't use it until the team is done.
When the team is done, I start ToDoList and use the checkbox to mark which features have been accepted. And once everything is accepted of I use the original estimates to determine what we over/underestimated so that the next time we have even more accurate estimate.

The most useful feature I find is the Transform Tasklist where I could provide my own XSL Transforms so that I could bump the estimates (I always overestimate everyones ability) and so that I could highlight the tasks that are too big or that lack confidence.

I mostly enjoy the ease of use and the compact viewing of information. I don't use any of the advanced features.

I'm a mechanical engineer, and have a large number of tasks to keep track of, notes to take, and requests to others to track. I have been using ToDoList for all of this. I've organized into general categories, then specific projects, then meeting notes or tasks. As I get specific tasks or items to follow up in a meeting note it gets a child. If I have a deadline, that specific task gets a date attached. If it's something I want to track carefully it gets a percent complete. If I'm done with a project it and all its children get archived.

It's a big beautiful program that I'm mostly just using as a nested list, but it's exactly what I was looking for. My employer doesn't allow web-connected software without an involved approval process, so this is perfect. I really just use the Task Tree, though Word Cloud is fun. I may eventually use the Gantt chart features if I have a project that needs careful tracking.

I use it for every aspect of my life, to me it's the ultimate Organiser and really thankful to have this freeware in my life. Bloatware free, Portable runs off USB. doesn't use crazy ram or specs.

there used to be one for iOS many years ago but it was unstable and discontinued eventually. I understand there's one for android but i'm too used to iphone . I use a free Organiser app called Pendo which I can backup the calendar in text form easily to another free app called Readdle Documents (as a file manager) and from there I import into my trusty windows desktop and ToDoList is the "Master Organiser"

I use file links within to my other microsoft excel spreadsheets that I use for work and NotePad++ (for my .txt files) , so yes, ToDoList Organiser for Organisers etc) with reminders function .

Calendars for low priority ToDos (on my desktop) as compared to the ones online (googlecalendar) on my phone.

the "Tabs" I rename in a way where it's in the form of priorities in my life.

05 06 07 08 fitness , house , finances etc etc. so when I click View Order Tabs By name it'll just open in the order I'd like. I have a total of about 30'000 "tasks" (entries) spread out accordingly .

hope this helps someone out there trying out AbstractSpoon's ToDoList can achieve important things in their life with it without trying to remember to do everything. all you need to do is remember to type it down and set a reminder to it. Thanks for this!

@abstr Can you port this awesome app to mobile platforms ? I rely on this app a lot so I want it to appear in every aspect of my workday :) Also, can you reveal the file format used by ToDoList ? It would engage others in this process, too.

Unfortunately I don't have the time for such a venture but there is a 3rd-party Android app you could try.

The format is XML and is fully exposed to anyone who wished to investigate it.
